What do I do after a breakdown?
A breakdown is often where a claim begins. The four steps below are based on what Honda Canada publishes about Honda Plus, in our words.
According to Honda, the Service Provision sets out all the terms and conditions.
-
If the vehicle cannot be driven
To reach Honda Plus Roadside Assistance, available 24 hours a day, use the contact details Honda Canada publishes in the Roadside Assistance section of its website, or speak to your Honda dealer. See what Honda Plus roadside assistance includes.
-
Have it taken to a Honda dealership
For a covered repair, have the vehicle taken to the Honda dealer of your choice. The claim itself is set out in how to make a claim.
-
If you are far from home
Trip interruption: up to $500 per incident if a breakdown happens more than 100 km from home, less any car-rental reimbursement.
-
If you are outside Canada
Your warranty goes with you in Canada and the continental U.S. Outside Canada, you pay for the repair first, then contact your selling dealership about reimbursement of eligible claims. Before you travel, read the Service Provision.
How do I make a claim?
For a covered repair, have the vehicle taken to the Honda dealer of your choice. Honda says the Service Provision, provided at purchase, sets out all the terms and conditions. To learn what the dealership may ask you for, check the Service Provision or ask the Honda dealer doing the repair.

Your documents
Keep your contract, your VIN and your service records handy.
What may help
- Your contract. It sets out what is covered and what is excluded. If you do not have it, Honda says to speak with your Honda dealer.
- Your VIN. Your 17-character VIN is on a label near where the driver’s door latches, at the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver’s side, and on your vehicle registration.
- Your service records. Honda asks you to maintain the vehicle as the owner’s manual recommends. Keep the records of that work, and read the Service Provision.
- While the repair is under way
- If a covered repair takes more than 5 hours in total, you may, under most conditions, be entitled to a rental car under the Honda Plus rental provisions.
- What you pay
- $0 deductible on a covered component breakdown. Honda Plus does not pay for repairs the contract excludes. The legal warranties may still apply.
- Not sure a repair is covered?
- Check your contract or ask the Honda dealership doing the repair.
Can I cancel Honda Plus, and what do I get back?
Yes. Honda states that a plan can be cancelled for any reason within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, through the Honda dealer. This term is in addition to your 10-day legal right.
Your 10-day right in Quebec
In Quebec, you may cancel (rescind) your extended warranty contract at your discretion, at no cost or penalty, within 10 days after it is concluded, by sending written notice to the merchant or its representative. The contract ends as soon as the notice is sent, and the merchant must refund the amount received as soon as possible. This period becomes one year if the merchant did not give you the warranty information that the law requires (Consumer Protection Act, s. 228.3). Send your notice to [email protected] or to Magog Honda, 2400 rue Sherbrooke, Magog, Quebec J1X 4E6.
- Cancel for any reason, according to Honda
- 30 days of purchase
- Refund inside that window
- 100% refunded
How to cancel
- Count from the purchase date
- Honda’s 30 days run from the plan purchase date, not from your vehicle’s delivery date. The 10 legal days run from the day the contract is concluded.
- The 10-day right, in writing
- If you bought your plan from Magog Honda, send your written notice to [email protected] or by mail, and keep a copy that shows the date. For Honda’s 30 days, cancellation goes through the Honda dealer.
- Bought elsewhere?
- Contact the Honda dealership that sold you the plan. Honda says the refund is made at the Honda dealer.
- After 30 days
- Honda’s public pages do not say what applies after 30 days. Ask your advisor for the Service Provision.
Can I transfer my Honda Plus warranty if I sell my car?
Honda says yes, under most conditions. The plan goes from you to the buyer of your vehicle.
No cost to transfer. Honda says there is no cost to transfer the contract from you to the buyer.
It follows the factory warranty transfer. Honda says the transfer of a Honda Plus is done automatically when the Honda factory warranty is transferred into the new owner’s name.
How much term remains. The coverage period starts on the date of the vehicle’s Retail Delivery Report (its original delivery date) and at 0 km, whenever you buy the plan. Honda’s public pages do not say how a transfer affects the time left, so check the Service Provision before you tell a buyer what remains. See how coverage is counted.

What happens if I move to another province?
Honda says your coverage remains valid if you change your address within Canada. Repairs are at the Honda dealership of your choice.
Moving abroad. Honda’s pages speak only of a change of address within Canada. Check the Service Provision before you move outside the country.
Travel outside Canada. Your warranty goes with you in Canada and the continental U.S. Repairs outside Canada follow step 4 above.
Servicing and plan validity
Do I have to service my car at a Honda dealer to keep the plan valid?
Maintain your vehicle as Honda recommends in the owner’s manual to keep the plan in effect. Honda’s public pages do not say where that work must be done. Check what the Service Provision says before you choose where to service your car, and keep the records of the work.
