What does the Honda Plus extended warranty cover?

Honda describes Honda Plus as one of the most comprehensive extended warranties in the industry: with a few exceptions, most components are covered. Honda’s published comparison names eight systems, from climate control to the powertrain. According to Honda, the Honda Plus Service Provision, provided at purchase, sets out all the terms and conditions: ask your advisor to explain what is covered within each.

Honda Plus is the extended warranty presented by Honda Canada on its website and available through Honda dealers. New to the program? Start with the Honda Plus extended warranty overview, then use this page for Honda extended warranty coverage, system by system.

This site is about the Honda Plus Extended Warranty for Canadian models of Honda cars, SUVs, minivans and trucks. Prices are in Canadian dollars and distances in kilometres.

Factory warranty vs Honda Plus, system by system

Honda publishes a comparison of its factory warranty and Honda Plus. These are its eight systems, in its own labels.

This table gives terms, not the list of parts covered within each system: ask your advisor to explain it. The 5 years / 100,000 km powertrain term applies to combustion and hybrid vehicles.

  1. 1 Basic factory warranty: 3 years / 60,000 km
  2. 2 Powertrain: 5 years / 100,000 km
  3. 3 Honda Plus: up to 8 years / 200,000 km

Example only, not a quote: on an 8-year / 200,000 km plan, a vehicle that is already 3 years and 60,000 km old has at most 5 years / 140,000 km of Honda Plus coverage left. In the chart, the red line marks that vehicle, at 3 years.

Honda Plus does not add years on top

Plan terms include the factory warranty, so “8 years” means 8 years of total coverage counted from delivery, not 8 extra years on top. For what you already have, see the Honda factory warranty page. For what waiting does to the term, read eligibility and timing.

Deductible, rental car, trip interruption and roadside assistance

Four short answers, from what Honda publishes.

  • Deductible

    $0

$0 deductible on a covered component breakdown. There is no deductible on roadside assistance either. Ask your advisor to explain what counts as a covered component.

  • Rental car

    Covered repair taking over

    5 hours

If a covered repair takes more than 5 hours in total, you may, under most conditions, be entitled to a rental car under the Honda Plus rental provisions.

  • Trip interruption

    Breakdown more than

    100 km from home

    Total limit of

    $500 CAD per incident

Emergency lodging and meals, plus a rental car or commercial transport (taxi, bus or train). Any car-rental reimbursement you receive is deducted from the limit.

  • Roadside assistance

Roadside assistance, 24/7, is extended at no extra cost. Roadside assistance depends on time only, with no km limit. It is counted from the date the application is signed, not from delivery. Roadside assistance details

To reach Honda Plus Roadside Assistance, available 24 hours a day, use the contact details Honda Canada publishes in the Roadside Assistance section of its website, or speak to your Honda dealer. For the rental and trip interruption terms, ask your advisor for the Service Provision.

What is not covered?

Honda says a few exceptions apply and that the Service Provision sets out all the terms and conditions. The only exclusions we can confirm from what Honda publishes concern electric vehicles.

Electric vehicles. The high-voltage battery of an electric vehicle is covered by Honda’s 8-year / 160,000 km factory warranty and is excluded from Honda Plus. Charging cables and home or other chargers are excluded too.

Maintenance. Honda says you must maintain your vehicle according to its recommendations, as outlined in the owner’s manual.

Everything else. This page does not list wear items or other parts: Honda’s public pages do not, and a guess could misstate your contract. Ask your advisor to explain the exclusions before you commit.

What the law already gives you

If you bought or leased your vehicle from a merchant, the Consumer Protection Act already gives you warranties free of charge: it must be durable in normal use for a reasonable length of time, having regard to its price, the terms of the contract and the conditions of its use. These warranties may apply after the manufacturer’s warranty ends. Honda Plus is added to them and does not replace them. See the notice concerning legal warranties.

Who repairs it, and with what?

For a covered repair, have the vehicle taken to the Honda dealer of your choice. Honda parts and Honda-trained technicians, according to Honda.

Where coverage is valid
Canada and the continental U.S. Outside Canada, you pay for the repair first, then contact your selling dealership about reimbursement of eligible claims. Your coverage remains valid if you move within Canada.
Hybrid and electric Hondas
The factory warranty on the hybrid system is 8 years / 160,000 km, and some exclusions apply to electric vehicles. Before you choose a plan, read the page on hybrid and electric vehicles.

Ask to see the contract

According to Honda, you can see a copy of the Service Provision before you buy by speaking with your Honda dealer.

The Honda Plus contract sets out the plan’s terms, limits and exclusions. Ask your advisor to explain them before you commit. This page covers only some of them. If you notice a difference between this site and your contract, tell us: what we state here binds us, as the Consumer Protection Act provides.

Which terms are available?

Honda lists 9 comprehensive plans, which its price list calls the Comprehensive Protection Plan options. They run from 5 years / 100,000 km to 10 years / 160,000 km, and the highest kilometre limit is 200,000 km. Every term is counted from your vehicle’s original delivery date.

Honda also lists two flexible-term plans whose first period is 4 years / 100,000 km or 5 years / 120,000 km.

Honda’s price list shows no price for the Prologue on the 7-year / 200,000 km, 8-year / 200,000 km and 10-year / 160,000 km plans.

Price depends on the plan, the model and the model year: see the Honda Plus price guide. To check your own vehicle, see eligibility.

Can I transfer or cancel the plan?

Yes, under most conditions. The transfer follows the factory warranty, and two cancellation periods apply. The transfer to the buyer of your vehicle is at no cost and happens automatically when the Honda factory warranty is transferred to the new owner.

Your 10-day right in Quebec

In Quebec, you may cancel (rescind) your extended warranty contract at your discretion, at no cost or penalty, within 10 days after it is concluded, by sending written notice to the merchant or its representative. The contract ends as soon as the notice is sent, and the merchant must refund the amount received as soon as possible. This period becomes one year if the merchant did not give you the warranty information that the law requires (Consumer Protection Act, s. 228.3). Send your notice to [email protected] or to Magog Honda, 2400 rue Sherbrooke, Magog, Quebec J1X 4E6.

How to transfer or cancel your plan

30 days, according to Honda
Honda also states that a plan can be cancelled for any reason within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, through the Honda dealer. This term is in addition to your 10-day legal right.
After 30 days
Honda’s public pages do not say what applies after 30 days. Ask your advisor for the Service Provision.

Frequently asked questions about coverage

What is not covered by Honda Plus?

Honda says a few exceptions apply and that the Honda Plus Service Provision sets out all the terms and conditions. The exclusions we can confirm are on electric vehicles: the high-voltage battery, which Honda’s factory warranty covers instead, plus charging cables and chargers. Honda says you must maintain your vehicle according to its recommendations, as outlined in the owner’s manual.

Read the page on hybrid and electric vehicles.

How long does Honda Plus last? Which terms are available?

Up to 8 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first. A 10-year / 160,000 km plan is also offered. Honda lists 9 comprehensive plans in all, plus 2 flexible-term plans. Plan terms include the factory warranty and are counted from your vehicle’s original delivery date.

The table above shows every plan.

What is the difference between the factory warranty and Honda Plus?

For seven of the eight systems in Honda’s comparison, the factory warranty is 3 years / 60,000 km, and it is 5 years / 100,000 km for the powertrain. Honda Plus is up to 8 years / 200,000 km on every row, and that term includes the factory warranty. Roadside assistance, 24/7, is extended at no extra cost.

Does Honda Plus have a deductible?

Honda Plus has a $0 deductible on a covered component breakdown. There is no deductible on roadside assistance either. Ask your advisor to explain what counts as a covered component before you decide.

Will I get a rental car while my Honda is repaired?

Possibly, under conditions. If a covered repair takes more than 5 hours in total, you may, under most conditions, be entitled to a rental car under the Honda Plus rental provisions. Ask your advisor for the exact rental terms before you decide. Trip interruption is a separate benefit for breakdowns more than 100 km from home.
